Man City & The Yankees Form Partnership

If you haven’t received the memo or read the NY Times or ESPNFC or BBC or…need we go on? Then you probably don’t know that two of the biggest and polarizing sports brands in the world, The New York Yankees and Manchester City Football Club have come together to form New York City Football Club, which plans on being the 20th team in MLS. The only thing missing is an actual venue. If we’re lucky, maybe we’ll even get a rivalry between NYCFC and the NY RedBulls in the vein of Manchester City and Manchester United. We can dream can’t we?
What does this mean for soccer in America or NY for that matter? Will it just be business as usual (same old marketing, same old access, etc.) or will the team and league take a huge opportunity and turn it into something beautiful, maybe like the development that was done in Manchester?
